This workshop will be lead by Anna Broome RYT-200, iRest Level 1 certified instructor. Anna has been practicing yoga for over 18 years. She is professionally trained as a Recreational Therapist and has worked as such since 2005. She began exploring adaptive yoga for her clients with varied abilities and mobility challenges in 2009. She received a 25-hour certification in Chair Yoga from Lakshmi Voelker in 2010. This led her to begin volunteering to teach at local assisted living facilities to hone her skills and share chair yoga with large groups. In 2011 she began offering her first public class in San Marcos. In 2016 Anna sought to deepen her personal and professional practice and received a 200-hour Registered Yoga Alliance Certification from Jenn Wooten and Angie Knight. The Waking Yoga teacher training course offered a focus on renewing yourself through your yoga practice. Expanding her offerings to her community, Anna opened SMTX Yoga in 2017. The mission is to provide quality, affordable yoga to people of all ages and all abilities. The addition of a Level 1 iRest Certification has opened up more opportunities to provide healing through meditation in the San Marcos community and beyond.

Finding Calm in a Turbulent World

An Illustrated Introduction to the Buddhist Wisdom Tradition

Dr. Laurence Musgrove

In this 2-hour class, Laurence will clarify the five basic principles of Buddhism and what they offer to those who seek to enhance their understanding of mindfulness, meditation, and peaceful community.

Laurence will lead guided meditation, explain the five foundational truths, and share related excerpts from his new book The Bluebonnet Sutras.

Laurence is an author and teacher. This last summer at Yoga San Angelo, he offered an introductory course on Buddhist approaches to happiness. Laurence teaches literature, creative writing, comics, and composition at Angelo State University. He is the author of Local Bird—a collection of poetry, and One Kind of Recording—a collection of aphorisms.

In his most recent book, The Bluebonnet Sutras, Laurence traces through verse his study of Buddhism, meditation, and mindfulness in the relatively isolated expanses of West Texas. With no retreat centers or meditation teachers nearby, he documents his spiritual journey in original sutras, calling into dialogue the imagined persona of the Buddha. They show an established professor and student of Buddhism struggling to develop and maintain a meditation practice, sustained and generous attention, and a fearless engagement with a beautifully imperfect world. Copies of The Bluebonnet Sutras for purchase will be available at Yoga San Angelo before and after this class. Laurence would gladly sign your copy.
