Yoga for the Lymphatic System

Yoga  for the Lymphatic System with Julie Zapata, RN, Licensed Massage Therapist, and Yoga Instructor.

The lymphatic system is an obscure part of the body, yet plays such a vital role in one’s overall health. It is known as the “Aquarium of the Body” that has a network of vessels and organs to distribute nutrients, transport and filter cellular debris and waste, and to circulate infection-fighting white blood cells.

Unlike the blood vessels which have the heart to move the blood, the lymph fluid depends on deep breathing and intentional movement to propel it throughout the body, Therefore, Lymphatic Yoga is a perfect pairing to vitalize the lymphatic system.

Research has shown that a daily program of Lymphatic Yoga can boost the immune system and overall energy, decrease allergies and headaches, boost weight loss, support anti-aging, and be a complementary treatment for those with lymphedema.

What to expect to learn from the class:

Basic anatomy and function of lymphatic system

Self-care tips

Diaphragmatic breathing

Lymphatic Yoga movements

Cost is $22.

Freedom in Backbends with Jerri Crowley

In this fun workshop we will explore Backbends!

Backbends are invigorating and strengthening. They open the entire front body and energize the back
body. Backbends help develop courage and stamina. By opening the front of the body, backbends have
amazing benefits, some of which include:
-opening the chest for better breathing
-developing flexibility and strength in the shoulders and hips
-increasing mobility of the spine which leads to better posture and may help alleviate some kinds of
neck and back pain
-increased energy, focus and confidence
Backbending  may seem difficult for beginners but helpful actions and awareness are learned first which
prepare the body and mind. When practiced over time, the poses bring clarity and peace to the mind.
We will explore several types of backbend poses with careful attention to alignment. The Iyengar style
of yoga provides the means through the use of props to work in these poses effectively and within the
student’s capacity.
All levels welcome.

Iyengar Yoga is a style developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, which is available to all ages and bodies through the use of props such as blocks, blankets, belts and more. Iyengar yoga is taught systematically with attention to detail. From the very first class, basic techniques with individualized attention help the participant enjoy freedom in the poses and learn to practice safely. Iyengar yoga helps eliminate aches and pains and improve posture so one may experience the many benefits both on the body and the mind.

Jerri Crowley began practicing yoga over 20 years ago and has been teaching since 1998. She founded the Iyengar yoga program in San Angelo at Community Health Club and is a devoted yoga practitioner and teacher. Jerri's teaching style is dynamic and precise with a blend of compassion and humor. She studies regularly with Patricia Walden, Randy Just and other senior teachers. Jerri is also a Doctor of Optometry and practices at SAMS.

$25 per student.
